Your Handy Winter Boating Guide

Boating in the winter season can be more thrilling than you first expected. Most likely, your favorite bodies of water will be less crowded during this time, and the sights and sounds of the area will be much different, too.

Check out our guide to learn a few tips to ride your boat safely during the cold season, and for more information, swing by RVs and Boats For Less. Our dealership is in Chubbuck, ID, and we happily welcome our friends from Idaho Falls and Pocatello.

Layer Up Your Clothing

The temperature on the water will be several degrees lower than on land. That’s why you’ll want to take all possible measures to keep yourself warm and comfortable when boating in winter. Wear extra layers of clothing so you can add or remove a few if needed.

Get Cold-Weather Accessories

You’ll also want to keep your hands and feet protected from severe cold conditions and frostbite. Make sure that you get a warm wool cap that covers your ears, a scarf that wraps snuggly around your neck, insulated gloves to keep your hands warm, and thick wool socks. It’ll be a good idea to get waterproof boots to keep your feet dry and safe.

Invest in a Portable Heater

Many boaters prefer to bring along a small electric heater when boating in the cold season. These compact models are designed for marine usage and are ideal for keeping you warm and comfortable.

However, make sure that you have sufficient space and power available on your boat to run your heater. In addition to this, you’ll want to bring a carbon monoxide detector to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

We hope these tips help you make your boating experiences safer and more enjoyable. If you need more ideas or are still in the market for a new boat, visit RVs and Boats For Less. We are in Chubbuck, ID, and we proudly serve Idaho Falls and Pocatello.
