While tough, winter camping isn’t impossible—and can be a great way to avoid big crowds at popular campsites and national parks. However, before you hit the open road this winter season, you’ll need to be sure you and your RV are both prepared for freezing temperatures and inclement weather. For tips on how to prepare for your winter camping trip, check out our article below.
Insulate Your RV
If you want to stay cozy and warm in your RV all winter long, you’ll need to invest in some helpful insulation tools. Simple items, such as heavy curtains and weather stripping can do a lot to keep warm air in while temperatures drop outside. We also recommend taking a moment to walk around your RV’s interior and exterior to patch any holes, cracks, or gaps that could allow cool air to seep in. If you’re traveling in extreme winter weather, you may want to invest in an RV skirt to better insulate your rig and protect your plumbing.
Protect Your Plumbing
If you’re camping in cold temperatures, you’ll need to take a few extra precautions to ensure your plumbing doesn’t freeze. We recommend insulating your plumbing—especially your waste valve— when temperatures drop near freezing, as well as adding antifreeze to your gray and black water tanks. Another great way to ensure your plumbing doesn’t freeze is to keep warm air circulating throughout the entirety of your rig, as well as using a handy heating pad to keep certain appliances warm— such as your fresh water tank.
